Went back to the castle house for the 4th time with low expectations, but decided to go real slow. Now armed with the CTX3030 I was hearing good sounds amongst all the garbage (lots of garbage). I dug every signal except iron (and still found lots of iron). Got a 1900 V Nickel on my very first dig (cleaning to come), a sterling silver women's ring in a plug I had previously dug!!! SHAME ON ME! A few whatzits, some nice decorative metal, and a small bucket full of stuff to still go through. Three hours out and I barely got my grid started as I was digging a lot. Below are some pics and a video of the V Nickel dig (forgive shakiness, was just getting started and still getting used to the POV camera glasses).

I guess my good eyes thought that was clear as day :-D

However, I'll try to take pics tonight with my USB microscope camera and post them. Really appreciate the help and interest!

Thanks, I hope so too!

Grant are the last three pics, images of the short sides? It's still difficult to tell from the pics whether the dot leadering follows the entire perimeter of the object or just on the two long sides. I'm sure it's a lot easier to see this in person. As I mentioned before, I would also post this on the "What Is It?" forum as some seem to mainly spend time on that page that are quite good at IDing things. I'll be there too with some of my items from this weekend as soon as i can get them scanned! :laughing7:

Just posted to What Is It.

Great finds, all!

Did you notice how hard that V-nickel tried to climb back into it's hiding place? Jumped back in there quick! :)

HH!

Yes, the short sides. When you see it in person you'll have a better idea (obviously, duh). But I'll see if I can get a big full on pic for you.

No comments yet on what it is :dontknow:

I know. It definitely didn't want to be found. I think that was the 3rd time I went over the area and this time I finally decided to dig a junkie signal. Then it hid behind a rock, then it jumped off the rock next to the hole, then finally back into the hole.

Oh, and preliminary cleaning has revealed it to be 1906, not 1900.

Here's the best pic I could get of the hallmark on the sterling ring. Haven't been able to ID it, so I'll post in what is it as well. Closest I could find is McGrath-Hamin hallmark, but haven't found anything exact.

I found another interesting whatzit from this hunt. It never made it out of my coat pocket until after it went through the wash. It fell out and sounded like a coin, but is it? I will clean it tonight and put it under the microscope. Cut copper? Wishful thinking perhaps. I'm not sure I'll get any details out of it, but will try! And I still have my bucket to go through :-)

Pre-Columbian guitar pick? :laughing7: I'm afraid that one will probably remain a "What Is It?"

I can tell you it's not copper. Copper turns green, brass turns brown / brownish-green / lead turns white. That looks dark grey. It could be pewter, it could be silver, it could be ????. The good news is that it doesn't appear to have ever been a coin of any type so you are probably safe to file a spot on the edge and test it.

Thanks. I don't think silver... but it def has the same tone of a KGII I've found recently. But I think Erik is right, it'll probably remain a whatzit. But I will try.
