CELLAR HOLE HUNT* COLONIAL NJ COPPER

Mikey (Forino) is back home for good and he called me last night to see if we could get out.went to a cellar hole and worked it until it started raining.
some good targets at this site & we'll be back for sure!
a huge crotal bell broke at the bottom with a makers mark of OBO. a few clad coins a smaller crotal bell the mounted to a leather strap variety and at 1 inch a 79 VDI reading..expecting a memorial or wheatie this pops out.a most likely date of 1787 New Jersey colonial copper.

Great find, I gave a quick look and hard to say from the photos, but it looks for sure like a 1787 Maris 6-D variety. Could you PM me the county and state found in for the survey please?

That would be the 9th 6-D in the survey and the 23rd I believe from your state reported to me.

Nice finds there. Always a thrill to dig a state copper. You probably have enough Connecticuts, so the New Jersey's a bonus. That is great crotal bell, even with the small area busted out.

The Crotal bell has 1 initial on each side, so that is a .B. not OBO (the other initial is broken off)
