cellar holes abandon houses

Your library or historical society would be a good start to look for locations that once had homesteads in your area. Failing that some signs to look for where there may have been a root cellar would be depressions in the ground either square or rectangular that are of a size that a house could have been. Look also for rocks, stones that would out line the cellar (may be moss covered ) and there could also be small trees, plants growing from this moss now.

Some of these sites may be filled in from erosion and would appear as a mound or some could be filled with water with just the outer stones showing...Detecting around these may produce old tools, buckets etc that are home related which will tell that you are in the right spot...... Good luck with you hunt.....

Cruise your county roads with your eyes open for the things Cariboo5 mentions. If you find abandoned farm houses ask around to find the property owners to get permission and assuming they're friendly and willing ask them for any locations as well.

Hey guys and gals I was wondering if anyone knows of any cellar holes or abandon homes in or around the flathead lake area any help would be greatly apreciated!! Thanks! Also what is the best way to search online about how to detect cellar holes.?
Hello from the Flathead. I don't know when you are coming but if you are here before the lake goes back up the shore of Flathead lake can be really good. It goes down 11 feet to the historic shoreline from before dam was built in Polson. Otherwise there are numerous places to go, some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. You might already know but there is a website Montanacadastral.com that show a google earth type view that gives owners name and shows property boundaries.
