Yup I know there is a section for "What is It" but I am quite sure this little relic found near a celler hole in South Hampdon , Mass is something you may never see again that I want to share with you.. It is pewter about 29mm, size of an early large cent but twice as thick. One clue it is not a button. I will wait to get some opinions then give mine. All questions and comments welcomed. I'm guessing you believe it's the center portion of a French made belt plate brought over by Lafayette.

Ok then - my guess was pretty ridiculous actually ! Whatever it is I like it !!!!

Sorry IP but I see where your coming from as the USA belt buckle is indeed a French import as this .

Excellent relic find!

Is it the earliest "Challenge Coin" known?

I would have to say it's ahhhhh...

Just kidding Gary you revealed this to me a couple of weeks ago and i would have never guessed this one.

Killer relic for sure maybe you should give the hint how you found out..

Very nice finds thanks for sharing.

I have no idea but I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say some kind of Tarriff/import stamp - as in tax paid?

A piece used by strategists to represent troop placements on their battle maps?

Ahhhhhhhh by god I think you just nailed it my friend. Great id

Very cool find! I would guess it was part of the USA Uniform? A part of a sword emblem?

guess it's not an early pog slammer then, eh? I'll go back to drinking my kool-aid!

Great find! That's how a similar piece was used in the movie. But, now I'm curious as to whether these were produced in "standard" sets, specifically for that purpose, and by whom.

I have seen one before - long ago - and Im not to far from that area in Ma.
will have to ask my friend - he hunts that area a lot - could be similar to something he found

Great find! What were those strategy pieces called then?

Castineman, we're dying here ... c'mon man. Give it up!

Just did a new post explaining what it is. Unfortunatly it is a fake so please read the new post for details. Fakery is unfortunately alive and not well in the field f collecting Rev War relics. Casper uncovered the truth.
