Went out in the freezing temperatures on a different field as the frost made it detectable, didn't find too much because l only did a couple of hours. But the 1st find of note was part of a cosmetic grinder from (l think)Celtic times, The second find of note being a Roman Plate Brooch of a type l have not seen before,

Hi, Thanks , yes it's pretty cold here at the moment. Most of my finds on this field were all found in the top 6 inches.
in fact l very rarely find things deeper than that. l reckon that 90% of finds are only that deep. Hutch.

Shame the Celtic Woad Grinder is bust, but it's still a rare find.

The Roman Brooch might actually be rarer, I have never seen that type & checked my books.

It's not in Hattatts or the most recent publication - Mackreth 2011.

I have a feeling you have an unpublished type. I have not done a search on UKDFD or PAS as that would take a couple of hours of browsing, however, I bet it's not on either.

BIG CONGRATS.

Amazing finds as always. Congratulations.
Regarding that brooch... I would have thought it was a roman door knocker..... LOL

Yes , l have never seen that type of Brooch before and lv'e looked in both my books and also on UK finds Database. so it's quite rare. But new types turn up every year. Hutch.

THey kind of do, but like I siad the latest 2011 definitive guide/study does not have one.
