I think those are hot potatoes! They might have been collected before Chaco Canyon had federal protection but I’m not sure if those are legal to own now. I’d be cautious for sure. I wouldn’t want to try to convince the Feds they were collected before a certain date. How could you prove that? I think that label would disappear if they were mine.🤷🏼

There's a place in 4 Corners near there where I would go and you couldn't walk without stepping on a potsherd. Cool to look at. Over the years, those have disappeared. I guess people thought they were worth a lot of money. They don't hesitate to prosecute pot hunters and collectors in that area. Your collection probably came from before the law applied though.

Somewhat NW of Albuquerque is Cabezon Peak. I know of an area that is just littered with Chaco Canyon type shards and sharks teeth. Used to take my grandkids there and let them scrounge for shark's teeth. The pieces of pottery were off limits but all they cared about was finding the shark's teeth!
