I was hoping for some id help on this chain I found on an old wagon road. I found it using the detector today about 15 feet from the small creek behind the house. The links are not uniform and the joining link looks really different. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't look very old but hard to tell!!! Ill bump your question for you though

Looks like part of a trace chain or some other type that went to the harness or from the harness to the wagon or single tree...d2

Without any hooks or rings on the ends, it would be difficult to tell what it was used for. But with the swivel in the middle, I;m saying it was used for logging. The swivel would prevent the chain from snapping when dragging logs.

I agree with d2, looks like a trace chain .

Yeap, may have pulled a plough or that spikey chain that aerates the grass.

when the horses died, they would hook it to an armidillo to pull the wagon! har de har!

Interesting find!

I decided to go back to the same spot and do some more detecting. I was able to find a smaller chain of the same style. It was only a few links though. I need to clean it up and post some pics of it too.
Thanks again for all the help and info guys.
