Published in New York, M W Dodd, 1853. Missions in the Turkish empire and
the East; the Armenian Church.

Original blind stamped brown cloth, gilt lettering on spine, corners bumped,
top and bottom of spine is chipped, there is a fine split along one side of
the spine, one of the plates is loose but present, Mount Holyoke College
library plate stamped as discarded inside of front cover, also is a
presentation plate.

7 ? x 5 ? inches; 240 pages; First edition;

Illustrated with a black-and-white steel engraved portrait of Mr. Goodell,
and color plates of period Costume, and one fold out plate of the mission
under attack by Arabs; the present costume of Armenian, Greek, Jew, and
Turk; a Turk in his ancient costume, he is here represented as performing
his devotions; an Armenian, in his former costume; "The Beduin Arabs
plundering the house of the Rev Wm. Goodell at Beyroot, Syria; March 23,
1826, at the time when the Greeks attacked that city."; an Armenian Lady, at
home; a Turkish Lady, in the street; Sultan Abdul Medjid, the costume of the
sultans was formerly very splendid. Their turban, & indeed their whole
dress was very gorgeous; but everything is now very plain.
