Hello All! A fellow tnet member invited me down for a hunt Friday. I found a good assortment of relics. I was hoping for that special coin or button but not complaining:) I got a couple flat buttons, some horse tack, part of a silver colonial shoe buckle, etc. I did get my first 3 ringer CW bullet! Is this considered a carved bullet? There was this blue & white pottery everywhere, I found one piece that was marked.

I'm not sure on a few of these items:

1) the brass piece with square hole
2) the iron & brass piece - I assume its some sort of lock. It's marked Carpenter with a WR & crown (I know this dates it to the 1830s) it also has another WR crown & says patented.
3) the piece with a round flat end, it is threaded on the end.
4) item with 2 holes, some sort of buckle?
5) the handle- is it off furniture or something like a document box

Any insight would be appreciated, I also posted these items in the what is it forum.

It was a fun hunt but the Mosquitos made it almost unbearable. My Off didnt really do the trick. Thanks for looking & HH!

Sounds like a fun trip. Congrats on your finds. :icon_thumleft:

A couple of the "whats it" items have been IDed as door hardware.

Awesome finds. I am not sure on that bullet if it was carved, it hit something or something hit it but its pretty neat either way!!!

Good job.. I would say just about everything dates to the 1830s-40s...

Nice finds mangum - thanks for sharing...

Nice recoveries, Josh!!!

WOW!!! I love the flat button and the padlock! I need to hunt a plantation some time!

Although the majority of your finds date from the early-to-mid 1800s, some of them are earlier. In your pic of the pottery, that piece at the bottom with the blue stripe is from a mid-1700s rhenish stoneware tankard or mug of some sort. I find that style pottery on just about every colonial site I hunt. At first I thought the item in the pic that's 4th to last was a seal top spoon handle which could date back to the 1600s. But with what might be threads at the end I doubt that's what it is. Maybe some kind of "pull". Also, that small silvery gray item with the 2 hooks on the back is a leather adornment piece, and those are commonly found at colonial sites as well. Sorry you couldn't put your coil across any coins, but you still recovered a nice assortment of early finds. Great hunt!

Don't believe your bullet is carved. Looks like it was hit by something with a sharp edge, usually a plow but if near the house maybe they were using a hoe in a garden. The fifth picture of the brass looks like a door lock face shaped like a skeleton key.

The one piece with the square cut out is the strike side or "keeper" from a Carpenter Door Lock. The long stem thing and the thing with the square hole go together ans is part of a door knob assembly. You can see where the set screw was broken out of the hole.

Thanks for the ID! I knew it was some sort of lock, just couldn't put my finger on it!
