hunter a field with my CZ-3D where the Methodist held camp meetings the last week of August from 1864-1910. There were also picnics held here over the years. Spent about 4 weeks here averaging 4 to 5 hrs a day 3 days a week. Worked it first with my 8" coil then went back and hit with 5" coil and managed to pull out a few more keepers where they say some corrals stood. Field was about 12 acres where these were held. Find's consisted of 11 silver dimes,1 half dime (1871),1 1898 "O" silver quarter,2 two cent pieces, 5 shield nickels,1 V nickel and 25 Indian heads with dates from (1859-1902) Thanks for looking. There is a part 2 on here that has more coins it would only let me put 12 up at a time the name of it is " Chautaqua finds more"

what they said and congrats. Did you clean any of those dimes? They look like they're in great shape
All I did was soak them in warm water and used a Q-tip to clean. on the copper I use olive oil and a Q- tip. Fertilizer is not kind to coppers here. Happy Hunting Mike

Old church summer camps rule! Nice finds Mike!

Hey Desecrator,
The name comes from the New York site where the camps originated I believe. But here in the midwest, these started around the 1850's in various towns and rural sites. My town had a long history of these from the 1850's to the 1920's at various sites. They would typically last a week or so and could draw thousands who would come to listen to the great orators and social speakers of the day, usually accompanied by religious speeches. They would typically be early summer, after crops got put in and the rural folk could afford a little time for it.

The best place to look for these is your local paper archives, in the mid to late 19th century during the early summer months. Typical of the midwest, this is also the strong storm season and several, including the 1907 in my town, were hit by severe storms. This would result in the large tents being torn up and tossed about as well many of the personal belongings of the campers/attendees. Yep, that sounds like opportunity!
