Check this piece out. WHAT IS IT!!!!!

Hey fellow diggers, I found this at an old house circa 1885 about 8" down in the hardpan. Ithink it's either brass or copper but it seems to be hand made. The face seems to be carved out of ivory,bone or shell. It,s kind of creapy to look at. Any opinions or information about it would be great. Thanks and happy diggin, The Rooster

The size of the piece is 3 1/2" height , 2 3/4" wide .

Agreed, it was never to see the light of day again & now you have upset the spirits & messed with the equilibrium of time & space. We will all be sucked into a black hole never to see the light again (just like what should have happened to the object).

One way to check and see if the face is ivory or bone. Heat a needle tip to fire hot. Put it at a spot that would not disfigure the piece usually on the back of an item or under it , If Ivory or Bone it will not melt in any way .

All kidding aside...that is VERY unique and a cool find. I'm sorry I don't know anything about it, but I sure hope you can find the origin of that piece.

As it has 3 rivets on the bottom (2 broken off) maybe it attached to some cloth or leather to make the body of the item.

Yes, April. 22nd in fact. 3:10pm.

The "hat" looks like 20-30's era,but i'm not so sure,it could be earlier.That face looks dead,almost zombie like.Maybe a death mask or voodoo amulet to keep the white devil away. Darn cool find for sure.Does it show any traces of being silver or gold plated,once upon a time? Is the back flat and plain?
