Why is the Lincoln 2008 D penny worth $1200? or rather any 2000 year penny? It seems to be common

I came across (got as change) a filled die mint error 2006 South Carolina quarter while in tnet fun camp.Pretty decent shape.you can barely make the date out,most lettering can only be seen by holding the quarter at an angle.The Palmetto state is there,the tree is there,the bird is there except for the shallow stamping of the tail.No trace of south carolina on it.Washington is there except for the tip of his nose.

Cool lists. You can find a lot of mint errors on Lincoln wheat cents from the late fifties. My Grandma claimed her dad send her to the store to buy tobacco with a 1913 V nickel. She found out what it was worth years later. Maybe so. My most interesting coin is a 1944 Henning counterfeit nickel. Not worth much, but just cool to have.

I'm pretty new to the coin stuff....it boggles my mind that the value can raise so sharply from pretty good to perfect (sorry I don't know grades yet) I'm positive I have some of these as I have jars of change my father gave me after my grandfather passed a few years back. Obviously not mint but perhaps worth something more than face value.

Well hell... I got many penny coins that if they were in "certified mint state" would dwarf the 1923 mint coin. The list is a bit deceiving with no disclaimers.

What's up with all the 1927's being worth so much @ $335.00 ea.? Maybe the same thing?

Hey AARC... I spent a lot of time looking up a lot of coins based on the penny list you posted and found MANY worth a lot more that weren't on the list. But I did learn a lot... Thanks.

That's one long list of valuable pennies! Not that I ever expect to see any of these in my lifetime unless it's at a coin museum of course haha! Now I'd really like to know if anybody on the forum here has ever had any of these in possession, or FOUND for that matter! Spam pictures of these so the rest of us can dream about owning one of them ourselves!

Hi Folks; I believe AARC has listed these coins in Mint State Condition ok. If it is not Mint State they are worth CONSIDERABLY less ok. There are other factors that need to be checked as well. Such as corrosion, scratches, cleaning etc.. If you believe you have one of these coins then by all means have it checked by a REPUTABLE DEALER ok. Then you will truly know ok.
Here are some AARC missed :

1972 Lincoln Cent - Double Die - Obverse
1983 Lincoln Cent - Double Die - Reverse
1984 Lincoln Cent - Double Die - Ear
1995 Lincoln Cent - Double Die - Liberty (obverse)

These are just a few examples ok. The best book listing Officially Recognized Mint Errors is the R.S. Yeoman Red Book ok.
