Hi everyone,

Wow, what a journey this year has been. My brother and I set out to have our best year yet but we had no idea what was in store. Our original goal was to find a combined 36 silver coins this year (which would bring us to 100 total lifetime), but we blew past that in March. We found a lot early in the year thanks in large part to my brother. I sent an article to him last fall about an old private site that was about to become public for the first time. He scoped it out and quickly found it was full of silver.

We made a new friend at that site (Jordan/Goat88) who was really helpful. Thanks again Jordan for all your recommendations about gear and especially for turning me onto the CTX and sharing your settings. Being able to hunt in the rain has been a game changer.

Around March/April I started to realize I might be able to find 100 silver coins on my own this year. I started to turn on the jets and get a lot of permissions. That worked for a while. Things started to slow down because we had a really dry spring and that's when Mike/Echoplex jumped in.

Mike is a class act. He invited me to join him on a beach site he had found and that was a real game changer as well. It allowed me to keep finding silver even when I couldn't hunt in the turf.

Well, one things leads to another and here we are today. I needed one more silver coin to hit one hundred and this old 1919 Merc was the one. Nice to let her see the light of day just a week shy of her 100th birthday as well. Before I found the Merc I also found a sterling St. Christopher medal.

Thanks again for all of your encouragement too. Truth, bass, PoE, Metal Headz, DirtLooter, CarolinaTom, 8 Reales, Brendan75, A2Coins, and all the rest of you lot that have been with me the whole journey. There are way too many of you to name but seeing your finds and reading your comments/encouragement have helped spur me on too.

Thanks so much for looking. I may still get a couple last hunts in this year and will definitely be doing a year end post come early January.

As always, good luck in the hunt my friends.

Congratulations on crushing the century mark! I know you have worked hard to get there, you still have a few more days to add a cherry on top!

Thanks so much BH. I really appreciate it. You’re one of those folks that has been there the whole journey. Good luck with your start to 2019!

Nice work Wash!

Thanks so much Brendan, hoping I might get lucky and find some South African silver around here someday [emoji14]

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

It's been really fun living vicariously through your hunts and sharing lots of pics and finds. 100 silvers in our area in the year 2018 is a tough feat, but you set your sights and ground it out. Now set your sights on that Seattle Seated and make it happen!

Thanks so much Davers. I’m not planning to try and top this silver coin total next year but I do hope to find some older items that I’ve never gotten before like a Seated!

Wow! 100 is quite an accomplishment and dedication to your goal. Great sites and hard work. Congrats!!!!

Congrats! that's quite a silver haul, I was happy with my 18 for my first year. At least I got 101 Wheaties!:tongue3:

Thank you so much. Yep, it took a lot of time and research (and getting confronted by nosy people) but it all paid off. Thanks so much for your comment and Merry Christmas!

18 is an amazing first year! I had 24 last year and that was my previous high. I think before that my best ever was 12. I live in a more historic area now, I’ve gotten better at research, I ask for more permissions, I go out more, and I’ve grown thicker skin (willing to hunt in areas I might’ve avoided before because of safety or how much in the public eye I would be).

Merry Christmas and may 2019 be even better to you!

To hit 100 silvers in Washington State is really impressive, I still haven’t gotten used to people gawking at me because they have never seen a metal detectorist before. I have gotten a thicker skin but I have avoided asking for permissions, If you don’t mind me asking what is your go-to opening line when asking a Homeowner for permission.
Congrats Washingtonian on hitting 100 and smashing your expectations!

Awesome Im at 96 last 10 hunts zero silver I gotta get 4 more in the next week lol Awesome job everyone. Happy Holidays. Tommy

Thanks so much highnam!

To be honest, I don’t love cold opens either. What I started doing was creating post cards that explain who I am and why I’d be interested in doing some metal detecting. I leave them in mailboxes in target areas and then try to follow up in person within a week or two. I often only ask for permission to do the sidewalk strips since people are less protective of those. If I get a good vibe I’ll ask about the yard too. Because I’m so out in the public I still catch a good deal of flak from negative Nancy’s but I figured that’s the cost of finding silver around here 🤷🏼*♂️

Lately I’ve been focusing on the sidewalk strips around construction sites since people generally don’t really care about those. I think often times they just assume I’m there working.
