Civil Or Revolutionary War Button Possibly

Today hit a couple new places. One is a old stagecoach inn from 1724 (the sign says that) there I found this button and a rifle shell. The pics are here of the two, I found some other stufff also I will post pics of them too. Here is the first pic the button. I was flipping out when I found it. Totally awesome. I still have to clean it but here it is anyway.

The back has like 3 rings wit writing in the middle ring but i cant make out yet what it says

Is there a place I can check for more info on the button like value dates, ect.
Buckram was right on with what it is now I want to learn more about it.

I researched More info on the button :

New York Militia Flat One-Piece Button. A very early British made, (before 1830), button that has an eagle on a globe with the State motto "EXCELSIOR" on a lined oval field with border and rope edging. 22.3mm

Will post more as i find more
