Civil war belt buckle fragment?

Found this in a spot I've found civil war relics before. I'm looking into the possibility that its part of a CSA belt buckle, my friend found one around here. From Maryland, path of Gen. Lee up through Virginia. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks! Found a confederate powderflask a few years ago in same spot, see my recents.

I don't think it is either a buckle or a breastplate .. Those rings on the back sorta negate those possibilities.
