Civil war bullet I.D help '' SOLVED RARE WHITWORTH BULLET"

My neighbor was a CW hunter for years and is rediscovering his finds. He has found some amazing things. One item (of many) we could not pin down was the type of bullet this was. Thinking sharp shooters? It is fired and has a ram rod mark and maybe rifiling. I do not feel is is a heated camp bullet.

It looks awfully close to a Whitworth. Particularly the shot of the base.

Yes, the hexagonal base is the giveaway, but interestingly, there appears to be narrow rifling marks also??? Is it possible that it was somehow fired in a conventional over sized bore musket?? Although most rifling standards for lead projectiles call for wide lands to control the slippage problem. However if this was so, it means that only the part of the lands met only the bore dia peaks on the sides of the Whiteworth flat area.
