Civil War Button ?

Hey all .. I found this on one of my last hunts. Someone suggested it may be a Staff
Officers button.
Just under one inch in diameter,and has Waterbury button co. back.

Not sure with the rim like that. Anyone know ?

It's a U.S. Army General Staff button, all right. Can't see the details of the backmark clearly enough to be certain whether it's a Civil War period or postwar variety.

It has the word Waterbury then button Co.

Maybe a better pic here ..
1849-1865 maybe. Too bad about the push on the front,but this is my first of this type
in good condition.

PBK is right. Nice staff. Pick at it with a toothpick and light brushing. You may get more detail to come out.
