Civil War Camp Finds

Had another good weekend hunting this camp me and my friends have been hunting for a few months now. Found some buttons I haven't found before, though they are in rough shape. JCdigger joined us this weekend and she found a bayonet, it was missing most of the blade part, but I'm still jealous. I met another relic hunter on Saturday, very nice guy. He came in to the area we had hit all morning just as we left. We went back out on Sunday morning and he came out shortly after and showed us some pictures of what he found. He dug a musket barrel, and under the musket barrel was cannon ball. Not sure how I missed it, but it gives me hope that there may be more there for me to find!

Bullet had nice patina, gun wrench, and the top of a latern.

Not sure what this piece could be, if anyone knows please chime in. It feels like heavy brass.

The grommets in the middle still have material in them.


The piece after the spoon is lead, I though I had a coin but it was probably made to be a poker chip. Then a nice pair of flat buttons.

2 Eagles with "D"... New ones for me, they are rough though. They don't hold up against a bull dozer.



Bullets for the weekend, one is a Washington Arsenal, been a while since I pulled one out.

There were a lot of other buttons and pieces that were just too rough to bother showing, did a lot of digging but it feels so good. Thanks for looking and HH. Dave

Great bunch of relics! I'm interested to see what the brass whatizit with the slot is. I found part of one, also at a camp, and not knowing what it was, threw it in the misc bucket. Good finds!

Nice finds. Maybe your next Dragoon button will be in better shape than those two you just found. Looks like the soil did more of a number on those buttons that the bulldozer.

Thanks Steve, and yes it must be the soil because we have pulled a lot of buttons out and very few are in good shape.
