The Seventh Corps used an emblem similar to that and they were in Virginia, but I'm not sure that's what you have. That emblem was also used by masonic groups, and is all over New Orleans, hopefully someone else can positively ID it for you. Whats the back look like?

Shriners too. The star and crescent is a fairly ubiquitous symbol. I'd like to see the back as well.

If it is the size of a half dollar, I wonder if it might be a bridal rosette.

Think you 're right it is rosette, and it does look like a new Orleans design but the sun rays are the only thing different
