Was metal detecting a Louisiana civil war battlefield yesterday and found this. Was in a cane field among the over 70 3 ringers we dug up. Everything we Dug was from the battle, but this has me stumped. It is 3.6 inches long and appears to be a handle. It is definitely brass. Any ideas? THANKS!

It appears to be the handle of a fireplace poker.

Haha of course it is. I figured it was not from the war, but I had to check. When you’re detecting a battlefield, a spoon can look like a sword! [emoji1] thanks

Rob nailed it. Here's one I dug out of a civil war trash pit.
