I went to a home site that has been producing 1700 to late 1800s relics. I dug two eagle I buttons, two thimbles, a couple flat buttons and this tag that says scholarship miss lizzie wilson class of 1878-79. At first i thought it was a CW id tag. It's still very cool. Thanks for looking. 1486684826134-1350077030.webp1486684919085651273709.webp

She must have been a very disappointed girl when that came up missing. Very nice.

Can't say I ever saw anything like this before, Awesome!! Hope some research can tell us exactly what it is and would like to know if it's silver. A one of a kind find.

So far the only thing i found out about it is spitsylvania has crappy record keepin... lol. But, im on it. Thanks for the banner vote.

Wow ! Special find for sure ! It would be so great if you could put a face to that - maybe locate some relatives , keep us updated on this one !

Very cool find!

Nice!!! I'll look into that lead when i get off work. Maybe they moved to Va. after that? The homesite i found this at has no name on the map. Just a dot. The house 1/4 mile north of it is labled "L. Wilson". Which i beleive would be a man because it wouldve had a mrs. before the name. Very cool. Thanks jeff of pa.!

Love it! Nice personal item!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!! Here is a better pic of it cleaned up a little better.20170210_192456.webp

You are probably right. Silver. Would be interested to see if you can track down a family. Awesome piece of history if you can. SWEET

Here is a facebook page of a Lizzie Wilson born in 1860. In 1878 she would have been 18. She was a star of some kind. Any possibility of a connection?

18 would have been graduating age possibly.

they had facebook in the 1800's?

I gotta agree banner
it's such a personal story even if it's not a gold coin

Lol right!! I checked it out. Pretty interesting. Turns out this was a common name and not short for Elizabeth .. I'm honored by the banner votes. Thanks guys. I would have never imagined in the 1800s they would be passing out silver tags for graduation. I have never seen one. This site has produced some cool finds so far and i just found it maybe 2 weeks ago. Im very excited to get back.

Cool find. That'll be tough returning- not only because of the age, but the common last name.

Cherish it. Got to be more at that site!
