Hi all,

Well, I found this while rummaging through an old garage sale, was given to me for free but I have no idea what it is and cannot find information on Google or here as to what it may be.

My thoughts are it's either NOT old, someone made it but the people claim their grandparents had this item, or it's some Indian water canteen, perhaps an old clay gunpowder holder although I am not aware of clay gunpowder holders but I could and likely am wrong. Hoping you experts can help me figure this out.

Thank You,

Paul

Paul, it looks like an old 'mammy made' pottery canteen.Does it sit up on its own or is it too narrow? The wire looks like it was added later in its life. Interesting find, Breezie

Thanks for the replies.

Breezie: No, it won't sit up on it's own it's fairly narrow and rounded like an axe head.

Gypsy Heart: The markings are more of a camouflage, a dim yellow, pine green and red but that may have been done by someone who owned it after. If I wet it down, the colors are prominent but turns back to what you see when dries.

lostcauses: Thanks, I will do that.

Just to keep everyone updated, I am thinking this is not very old, nor a water canteen. Here is something I found that looks quite similar...
