I dug my first silver dime a week ago, finally got around to clean it up. It's a 1953 Roosie so no numismatical value to it. Just silver weight. (I dont sell finds anyway) I've had it soaking in soap and water first, than straight white vinegar, than white vinegar and salt, but nothing changes. I tried using Q tips after sitting in one of the above solutions to remove the black dirt but nothing changes. Advice?

Try using ketchup or hot sauce

It's not a key date so scrub it with a toothbrush. If it has a dark patina, just leave it intact. TTC

Eraser takes the black off

silver jewel clean dip from wally world,,,, but i would leave it alone

You said black dirt. Is it really dirt stuck to it, or is it just discolored metal?

If it has stubborn dirt, try this: soak it thoroughly in water and then put it in the freezer over night. the water soaks the dirt, then the freezing breaks it.

If it's black discoloration, try the foil / soda method.
