it took about 3 minuets to clean this 1942 silver nickel i found when i was out detecting.i would not recommend you clean a valuable coin this way.. i clean all coins i find because they are for me and not for sale.i just take a pencil with an eraser on it and rub if i where to do it for about 5 more minuets it would be even more clean and? shinny. find a dirty old silver coin and try it let me know what you think this also works great on Lincoln memorials i think that this nickel has had a few accidents

I'v used the Eraser method, to bring out the Dates on Encrusted coins.

Works Great.
The White Ink Erasers, you find on some pens work best.

i will have to try that white ink eraser

Certainly not something to use on a really valuable coin.

But back in the 70s I found out about this, and used them on crummy old wheaties I had in my collection. Certainly makes them look much better.
:)

Darn good info...I gotta try it..Thanksssssssssss

Personally with silver coins I just use some baking soda and a little water. Rub between your thumb and forefinger. Works very well in most cases.

This is a great way to clean a coin.... I used it on a copper coin with great success, but with a brass coin, it did nothing..... Maybe did not try hard enough.

God bless

Peter, stick your brass coin in a potato for a day or two, then brush off the starch with a toothbrush and water.

Thanks CryptoDave, I have done that already with great results..... I just thought I would give the eraser trick a try also.... Both are excellent tricks ;) Keep the tricks coming....

God bless
Peter
