Clear Creek Shasta County Dredge Piles ?

Has anyone gone out to these with a metal detector ? There are so many piles of rock and tailing out there from when they went threw there with a dredge a long time ago. I would think there would be some gold in them still. Anyone have any info on this?

No, but would like to know but it seems I heard of one guy finding a Nugget the size of a softball or baseball up around the chico area 15 - 20 years ago. Theory was that is was to big to get caught in the riffles of the dredge and just went over the top like it was any other rock you find in the piles. Many of those piles are really tall and the holes can be quite deep which I always thought might be a good spot to check out as it was likely bedrock. Good Luck and keep us posted. Mayor

darmentle, yes, there is gold in that area. A friend of mine found a nugget that weighed in at over 14 ounces. I hunted with them but all I found was bullets and brass along with some square nails and an old shovel head. It was near Clear Creek Rd and Honeybee.
