Here is nail purgatory that I have cleared over 200 pieces of junk, mainly nails, with just my Garrott Carrot.

Early this afternoon I covered the last 15' with the carrot. The density of junk was much lower. But still heavy.

I intended to let the area rest until we got at least one soaking rain. But I could not resist. Took out the 350 and hit it. First find made me ecstatic.

Its an enameled ring. My second ring this year!

I also snagged two cents.

I also found two non-metalic items.

I then casually hit the back yard. Five of these junk items read a solid dime/quarter reading on the Ace 350.

One year into an old church yard and I'm still digging shell casings and nails. I know how you feel.

Well, you certainly nailed it!

I like the ring. That shows promise for your next round of attack. Do it!

Really a cool idea to clear the path for you to find the nice ring. Hoping it will come a good soaking rain for you to clean that spot out of all the goodies....

Nice! Patience AND perseverance...WAY more than I have! Lol...that is a very nice ring, and yep..those pesky bottle caps ring up high! Even when they're rusted almost clear to nothing..86..87 bing bing bing...RATS! Congrats, keep up the great work..Ddf

I feel your energy. Congrats on the ring!

Congrats on the interesting finds, and finding your second ring for the year!

I thought I'd never say I hate nails worse than ALUMINUM!:BangHead: Keep at it and the more interesting stuff will be revealed. Kudos for your perseverance. :icon_thumleft:

We truly are a small group of STUBBORN people, aren't we? I am in good company on T-Net.

Sweet work, nice ring. Congrats !! I would never even have thought to search a spot like that.

I like your post title-I've been in "nail purgatory" many times and I feel your pain, but those areas often hold a lot of good relics if you are willing to persist. Good finds-and hard-earned.

I'd love to see a picture of that ring all cleaned up. I've found only one enameled ring thus far, all stained up. I cleaned it with a wipe and all the stains came off and left the ring beautiful.

You're a pretty tough cookie to dig through all those nails and trash but the ring was a good payoff. Is it cloisonné ?

Nice ring. Well deserved!

Congratualtions on the nice finds and working systematically over a tough area! :occasion14:

congrats on the ring find. I have several spots like that but I usually hit them hard for a little bit and then go elsewhere, I guess it is a hit and run tactic to which I hope to eventually clear them out. I also save them for when I can't go to the better spots. I still figure that you will find even more nails but hopefully the worst is gone now.
