How would I go about getting it appraised? I'm not particularly motivated to get rid of it at the moment, but it would be interesting to know what it's worth. Where would I go for that?
Formal appraisals are really only for insurance value with Indian Artifacts. I've seen people/estates pay a lot of money for appraisals before deciding what to do with a collection, and the numbers vary so widely that they usually aren't worth it. You might get a range of $50-$5000 from an appraiser who certifies antiques, or the figures are just strange, like $4392.93, based on a average of a bunch of different points sold (they could compare yours to much larger examples, or compare different types.)
In my opinion your best bet, although hard to do right now, is take it to a large relic show and show it to some people. For a point like that you'll likely get a lot of offers from either dealers or collectors, and that range would give you a pretty good idea of what it could sell for. Just make up your mind if you want to sell it before you go, I've seen (and bought) a lot of relics at shows from people who were surprised at a number and a wad of cash. (If someone offers you a $1000 would you sell it and later regret selling it?)
You could go the route of getting a COA, there are probably as many opinions about COAs as there are people who issue COAs. One of them might be willing to give you a ballpark figure.
Someone mentioned eBay, you can certainly look there but just realize that a lot of those are fake. You'll see a lot of relatively similar points selling for less than $100, I don't think they'd be a great reference point for you. You could also search a site like liveauctioneers.com, and search for Dalton and click the price results tab. (If you don't have an account, you'll have to sign up.) A lot of the bigger dealers run their the internet part of their in person auctions there, and the site has a lot of historical listings for authentic relics that have sold. You'd want to compare similar sized points. I've attached a couple of pictures from the site.
