Coil Cable

I read on another site that it is necessary to have your cable wrapped tight around the shaft of the detector. If the cable is not tight it has a negative effect on sensitivity. Any truth to this? I usually keep mine slightly loose by maybe one wrap.

A loose cable can cause falsing more than anything.....

it needs to be tight enuf near the coil so it does not move.movement will give a signal

Agree with other posts. I actually had this problem initially (like you I had one loose wrap). I did it, because I wanted the ability to change lengths when handing to my son. I solved the problem two ways. First, was to simply twist the shaft around one when shortening, to keep the cable tight... Second.. I bought him his own metal detector, so I didn't have to do that any more.

Other folks secure theirs with velcro or tape. I'd recommend velcro, as it doesn't leave residue on the shaft or cable.

Also, I've found while swinging if my headset cable touches the shaft, I'll get a false. I've now run the headset cable up through the arm rest in the velcro strap that came with the armrest (that I don't use for anything)
