Hi Everyone,

Every once in awhile I look at someones post about coin bags they have picked up and they seem to find some really cool stuff. I mostly just do boxes of halves occasionally mixing in cents and quarters/dimes. The banks I go to are really accommodating to my hunting and I wonder if I am missing out on something. How do banks end up with these bags of halves or other coin? Can you order bags of coin? Does it have something to do with the bank having a coin machine? I got to BOA and they do not have a coin machine. I guess that wouldn't make much sense assuming the machines reject silver anyway. :icon_scratch: That's why I am asking. Hope to be posting more like I used to in the near future. Thanks all, HH!

What makes you think the coin machines (other than coin star) reject silver?

That is precisely what made me think they would reject silver. That's why I am asking. Not to mention the other bank I use has a coinstar in it. For all I know they all use coinstar. You're not really answering my question, but thanks for trying to emphasize my admitted ignorance on the subject...

It's a gamble, with the bags you could get a solid bag of dump coins( I have got many) from another hunter, they just take the deposit bags from the bank, weigh them, and ship them back out to who ever, with boxes at least you get the chance of the bag being mixed in with another in the machine that has something in it so you don;t get skunked. HH, Maverick.

Majority dont, trick is finding banks that have counters, that take halves, and will let you buy them. Next to impossible.

Thanks Mav, think I'll stick w the boxes for now.

I have only found 1 branch of a bank that I dont even belong too, who will sell bags off the counters, every other bank ive asked refuses to sell them... I had luck once, found a lone 64 kennedy in a partial bag of around $300 worth.

As far as I can tell, only the brand name coinstar machines reject silver, all other bank machines shouldnt reject it. And on that note, ive never seen a bank that has a "coinstar" machine in it?? Are you sure its actual coinstar brand??

HH

I buy bags of coin (rolled) every month from several different banks. None of them have coin counters.

Yes it is a credit union and it is most certainly a Coinstar machine.
