Hello all I have been hitting it hard I have changed my style of hunting getting a bit tired of digging trash and clad so I got some old maps of my area and I'm only going to places that predate 1800 targets are few not a lot of trash and no stinkin Lincoln s
Ok I found this large copper coin went to a coin shop he said it was so roaches it was un readable at any case worthless. So I cleaned it as best I could. ( I know I know ) but I also read cleaning dug coins is ok if needed to get proper I.d. I can not figure out what it is it measures exactly as a modern U.S. Quarter I'm pretty sure it dates 1770 but can not get it a few letters behind head not many like 4 an o behind the head at eye level then an s above that. Any help would be great. I thought it was a farthing geo the 1st but I'm. Not so sure image.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webp

George I halfpenny. It's a little bigger than a quarter but clearly you have some edge loss.

No and no. Bust is wrong, and George III dates 1770-1775. And not sure how you can be sure on the date when you say you think you see it on the bust side and George III does not have the date on the bust side. I told you what it is based on logic and many years experience both finding them as well as buying and selling them, and you are debating my ID looking at the same thing you were not able to ID.... and that's in part because you are confusing detail for what is not detail. I'm not being an idiot, just trying to get the point across that is a pretty solid ID. George I Halfpenny.

IP is a master Jedi of coin ID. He's helped me more than a few times with 1700's copper id's. So many old coppers from that age are blanks so I'm happy you were able to get it identified.
