I thought this was a French coin but I can not find any info on it. It was found at a 1795 French military site but I can't ID it. There is some amazing knowledge on this web site and I have gotten a lot of help from you all in the past(PBK ,Sand,Folkert,Bavaria Mike Just to name a few) so any help would be great. For me the resurch is fun but I seem to have hit a brick wall here. I am not real computer savvy so maybe I am just not looking in the right places. Thanks in advance and HH. :)

Hey, Birdman...

I believe it's a 1/2 kreuzer from the Swiss canton of Neuchatel, which at that time was under Prussian rule. If so, it should be a little smaller than a dime. The metal is billon, a low-grade silver alloy.

Good stuff PBK, I know the back has Latin on it and has a date spelled out but it does not read Kreuzer but being Swiss that may not have been common on their coins. The shield looks like someone scraped an X on it . Makes you wonder about the last owner. ??? Thanks much for the information. That would make since to find one in this area.
