Coin identification

Found this today in a cut on the W. Coast of Fl.
Can anyone identify it for me?
Is there a way to clean it without damaging it?

Hard to see, just on my phone. Try to take a close up picture, might help. Muratic acid won't hurt silver, but hold off on cleaning. Wash it in fresh water.

It looks like a fake. There is no cross with straight bars at the end of the crosses. I can see a possible pillars and waves which were made from mid 1600 for quite a while. But it is hard to see. Acid would most likely dissolve that if fake. So don't do any cleaning.

I am with SteveMC I believe it is fake. Over the past few years my friends have found numerous fake coins including fake gold coins and huge penny spills in the water and on the wet sand. Just a cruel ploy or joke if ya ask me. If it was silver it would have a black crust as most pot metals turn out like your coin. What was the TID fe-co number if you can remember.

Copy of a gold escudo in.....what ever type of metal. I have found at least a half dozen fakes over the years. Still a thrill at first sight.

IMHO, it is a fake and likely was sold to an unsuspecting tourist who then lost it or tossed it upon finding that it was fake.

hold on a second, I think you coming at this wrong. I don't think the OP is trying to pass off a fake coin here. This comes up several times a year on TNET. Yes, people really do buy these fake "pirate" coins at tourist shops ans throw or bury them on the beach just to get a laugh at the thought of someone digging it up and thinking they had treasure in their hand.

Tom please stop the insults and attack on the OP, repros are found on Florida beaches all the time and they are not buried but rather covered up by the tides just like all other coins lost on our beaches. I have seen several myself dug up on the beach, they are cheap repros sold in tourist shops, not expensive to buy.

Please re-read and post by our rules, if what your thinking violates our rules you have to keep it to yourself.

I agree. OP is looking for honest opinions, not beating his chest like that guy a few years ago who posted a pic of himself holding an obvious fake and then went ballistic when he was called out on it. Good times.
