Just seeing how this topic will turn out, I know many people have mixed feelings about marking coins,
but for those who do, share your marks here, a picture would be great!

Please do not start arguments about marked coins-- that would be off topic.​

I'll start off, I mark only a select few coins per half dollar box marked:
"B"
"Buff"
"Buff Boy",
I'd estimate about 500 to be out in circulation over the past half a year. I've gotten messages from some folks on here saying they got my dumps, a perfect example of why we mark coins, to see where they go. I've personally not gotten many of my dumps back, but people over 150 miles away have.

I don't mark my coins. The idea was brought up for me to start marking some of my dumps though. I think fluorescent orange should do?

I would have never marked any coins. But a few guys on here wanted me to because i was doing a lot. Now am glad i did am getting orange ones back after ?? 3 to 4 week. And green ones after 1 week. I will dump diff.. now when i can. more in ac and new york. If that will help i don't know. I do know if i got some ones orange coins it would make me want to get my coins some where else?? What ever i gess i would just do more. that seems to be my way of doing things.I got 117 silver coins yesterday with 22 boxes. With orange and green coins. So who cares. I did find a 40% some one sprayed blue?? they missed it.

if you dump more in AC, you'll find more of your dumps, I suggest dumping heavily in NY not in AC, my personal opinion though!

I think am doing very good this week So far this week i did 46 boxes and found 17 90% and 166 40% 8 more boxes tomorrow.

i brought this up in a thread i made. Marking coins means absolutely nothing. It makes no difference. You can mark coins till your blue in the face and it does not mean you wont find silver. I actually hate when i open a box and see no marked coins. Every box i get that has no marked coins is a skunk. When you dump your marked clad coins the bank sends those coins out along with all the other half dollars that were brought in, maybe some ones old coin collection that does not know any better?? This is why you are finding silver between the dumps. I never mark a coin simply because its a complete waist of time and means nothing.

There are so many things we can learn from marked and marking coins , especially in an area like westchester ny. there are many different banks that use coin machines and at least 3 differnt types of boxes that i can get halves . By knowing whose coins are marked and where they or me dump i can start learning patterns of things.By getting marked coins in unmarked customer wrappers i can get a good idea that i just picked up a dump. Where as i dont like picking up a dump i like less not knowing if it is a dump or not.

Back in February I marked a whole box of halves with 2/12 on the obverse. About a month ago I gave JFK a curled moustache on about 200 coins.

i follow a strict dumping routine and never pickup from where I dump and vice versa. But last month I found about 5 of my 2/12 coins in a box from one of my big pickup banks. These were dumped at a specific bank that I use strictly for dumping, not just a branch here or there, but the entire company. Go figure...
