Found this item while detecting in Southeastern Connecticut. It measures about 1 5/16" in diameter (this is the most accurate measurement I can provide until Monday) and it is extremely thin. There's also a small rectangle which appears to have been punched. The only thing I can see, other than the big 10, is what appears to be a 3 printed just under the line in the last photo.

What a cool find! I love seeing these coins from Brazil dug in the US. I think this is c. 1820s-1830s coin - yours looks like 1830 - that has been counterstamped / revalued 10.

That 10 stamp looks different than I have seen before -- I found another that looks like it here- and says it is a: Para State km#409 10 Reis (1835) stamp on 40 Reis

Thanks for the info! That is the second Brazilian coin I've found this month. I found one in the woods just a couple of weeks ago.

I thought it was pretty interesting a coin from 1699 (20 Angolan reis) was next to this rock.

Correction, not a Brazilian coin. I meant to say foreign.

Both Portuguese colonial related though which is really interesting IMO - great finds!
