Just joined TreasureNet so hopefully I can stop scratching my head about this find. Slightly larger than a quarter, yet much heavier. Two holes opposite each other in the middle depressed circle that looks to be stamped. I'm thinking this could be some type of button or stamped part. Our land sits on the southern end of what used to be a town, est. 1830s. Very new to metal detecting and finding interesting items every time I look. Thanks for any info.

Looks like someone turned a lead bullet into a homemade button or a wizzer.

Thank you, but what is a whizzer?

Whizzers were made out of all sorts of things.
From coins like large cents, buttons and hammered flat lead.
They are noise makers.
A string is put through the holes and tied into a loop.
Placing the ends of the loop in each hand around a finger and
with the Whizzer in the middle and moving your hands in and out similar to clapping.
The Whizzer would spin causing a whizzing or buzzing sound.

Your piece is either a button for a coat or it's a whizzer.
I"d say Whizzer
