Haven't really been hitting to many new spots this year . But in the course of detecting some old spots and renewing some old contacts while doing a little chatting with some older people in the area I hit on a new spot to investigate . I found out that there was a spot about 35 miles from me in the Schoharie Valley that was a popular swimming hole that dates back to the early to mid 1800s all the way up to the mid 1900s . On that spot there had always been a little concession stand to sell drinks and burgers to the kids and adults swimming there . Over the course of the years do to redirecting the creek because of flooding and the general movement of bodies of water as they cut new channels the creek has moved almost a 100 feet away from its original path thereby getting rid of that old popular swimming hole . What was once a popular summer distraction spot is now the back of someones lawn . The shack is still there but now is an old run down garden type shed .
Enough of a back story on to the good stuff . The day started slow with just some modern clad and the normal junk you find on a lawn . About 2 hrs into the hunt I got a solid
12-23 on my Etrac which usually means old style beer tab . But being as its also in the gold ring range and there wasn't many pull tabs there I dug it . I popped the plug and got a immediate response from my pinpointer but for the life of me I couldn't find what it was . When I finally found it I was in shock ,it was what turned out to be my first silver 3 cent piece ever . But there was more beeping in the hole so back I went . Again it was impossible to come up with a target but persistence paid off with a Seated Liberty Half Dime . Now im jumping up and down like an idiot and about to go into cardiac arrest . But wait there is more beeps in the hole ,again a signal that I cant seem to find . But when I did what do you think I found ......... The silver 3 centers nickel flavored brother . Yup a nickel 3 cent piece hiding with his two smaller brothers . Now I actually did have to sit down for a couple of minutes because I got a little light headed. A 1872 Seated Liberty Half Dime , A 1862 Silver 3 Cent Piece and A 1870 Nickel 3 Cent Piece 100_0723.webp100_0727.webp100_0728.webp100_0730.webp
I was able to float back down to earth after a little while and kept on swinging . Nothing much for over an hour other then a few clad and some interesting homesite type relics .

As my day was winding down I headed back more toward where I had found my coin spill and toward the old shed that was the concession stand. I hit a solid 1-47 on my Etrac at 6 inches . I figured the way my day started there was no way it could be big silver . Boy am I glad I was wrong , sitting in the hole was the prettiest big silver edge . My first Walker ever . It has been a Half type of year for me a Cache of Franklins, a Barber Half and now a Walker . A half trifecta in the same year .100_0732.webp100_0733.webp100_0734.webp.
I stayed for another hour or so but didn't find anything else other then junk . On my way out I rummaged in the old concession stand and found two old oil cans in pretty good shape . One metal and one cardboard and a 1970s or so embossed pepsi bottle100_0747.webp100_0748.webp100_0749.webp
To top that off I have a date with a new lady friend for dinner and the beer is in the fridge . Life is good :occasion14:
