Okay here we go, Checked out a site I dug over 20 years ago on an Archeological dig long abandon. This is a bluff on a salt waters edge, I did a little poking 3hrs worth over 2 days and found a few items. I will go back soon,
1876 seated dime very worn, 1909 wheat penny ( my oldest wheat found yet ) I know its the first year of the wheat so I will not beat that date..lol
One old button, I cant make out the letters on the back, The front looks like it was just a flat silver colored button :icon_scratch:, There are lots of Ammo shells at this site from 22 cal to larger older stuff like what I have pictured, I think are .44 Henry Rimfire, There about 7/8 inch long .

The bullet is about a little more then an inch long and about the size of a diameter of a pencil. I have found these at old gun range sites also, I am not sure what cal or year there from ???

any info on the button or shells would be helpful, This forum is better then Google for info .

I think I found that same "button" today. I have it soaking in olive oil to get the same crud you have on yours off mine. Mine is a little more caked though. I could tell they are very similar by the arrows going around in circle. I can see words on the outside of the arrows, on the outer edge, of mine. Can't discern them though

I used oil also, The penny was really corroded, Mineral oil works wonders

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Great finds, awesome silver, congrats!

yep, good finds, nice

Do some research on the 1909 and check for more detail. look for a VDB

yeah I looked for the VDB but its not there. I dont mind finding wheat pennies when there pre 1940, I always find 40+
I will be happy with any coin over 100 years old or if its not then it needs to be a silver coin to quench my thirst for treasure :blackbeard:

your button is a flat button or 'coin button' as they look like worn coins. yours looks silver plated which is a bonus. real common button found in early to mid 19th century sites. without seeing a specific backmark I would date yours to 1830's or 40's, though of nominal value they are always fun to find. but more importantly they are an indicator that older stuff may lurk about. there could be a rare early coin or maybe a nice early military button.

the casings with the "H" are Henry rifle casings. also a fun thing to find from a famous firearm. I wish I could help you on the bullet. Post-1865 stuff falls outside of my interest so I don't have the knowledge on it. it looks odd; I can say that. I have dove on lots of WWII Japanese wrecks in the Pacific and I have seen narrow rifle rounds, I think 6.5mm on these wrecks, but they don't have rings. but your bullet has a similar shape. but I know that doesn't answer the mail on what it went to but that is the best I can do. sorry. good luck finding an answer to that. cheers!

Thanks for the help on the button, I do like finding old buttons as you say its a good indicator of what you might find in the area.

great digs!! love the dime!!
