I think a lot of us Americans dream of gold coins
i found a $5.00 gold coin 20 or so years back. The people that lost it asked me to come and look for it. It was about 10 feet from there burn barrel. They had taken some papers out to burn and it had gotten mixed up in them by accident, They was HAPPY when i found it. I do not consider it a fair find

The 'peso bolita' is a valuable coin. I remember several years ago Stacks auctioned one off for just over $7,000. I could argue, however, the historic value of that coin and the next one exceeds whatever proceeds that can be obtained in an auction; they are truly iconic coins of Mexican history.

In Europe, you can find Greek or Roman coins that are thousands of years old. And in the Eastern U.S. you can find coins minted by the American colonies, or even early British coins. But in California, the best you could ever hope for (realistically) is a Morgan dollar, or the Holy Grail, any denomination of gold coin..

Your H (Hidalgo) del Parral coin may be the first Revolution coin minted. Revolution coins were authorized by the generals for money to pay their soldiers and to furnish coins which were unavailable from any responsible government. The coins were struck in army camps, towns and a couple in Mexico City. Two types were issued; yours being, by far, the most valuable. The other variety has the number "1" above the word PESO and there is no 'ball' as shown on your coin. I don't know if mintage figures are available for that coin. Suffice to say, it's rare.

Your MUERA HUERTA coin was issued in five varieties; all differentiated by their borders (dots, smooth, triangles, dashed and toothed). The variety with both a smooth border and a plain edge is the most valuable; possibly over 10K.
"This was coined at Cuencamé, an old Indian village between Torreon and Durango, in Durango State, under orders of Generals Calixto Contreras and Severino Ceniceros.

This coin is most remarkable on account of its inscription — MUERA HUERTA (Death to Huerta). So dire a threat on a coin is almost unique in numismatic annals. It is said that Huerta was so enraged about it that he issued a proclamation to the effect that whoever was found in possession of one of these coins should be subject to death."

I guess an old low mintage silver would be possible.
Gold also is possible.
Some rarer tokens are up there also, but condition of coppers is compromised.

1858 Canadian 20 Cent piece.
Minted one year
Pretty rare to find one detecting.

Then again gold is gold

Here are Sydney Australia Minted gold Sovereigns.
There is a rare Penny too. And a dump.
A great Aboriginal mate, now sadly gone, found a Sovereign and bought a brand new car from it in the 80s.
Great guy!
One time here its one then the other but probably the most sought after the Sov.

Back in 1983 I was layed off at a mine I was employed at in Colorado. I decided with the time I'll have I'll go down and buy me a metal detector and hunt for treasure. There was a MD dealer in Salida, Colorado called Doc Holidays. I purchased a Garrett detector that cost back then I believe $180. Only thing made of plastic was the coil. I never did find much with the thing other than two Barber dimes in the same yard at a place I lived in Buena Vista, CO. Everything else I found was old rusty iron. I took the thing over to Park country to search old miners camps and dream of finding this gold coin I'd read about in the local history called the Dr. Parsons territorial gold coins. One minted in a $2.50 and the other was a $5.00 denomination.

What detector are you using?

I have been using Nox 800 but I never heard how is the sound and ID target of a gold coin.
