Here are my finds from a colonial site I started last fall and just finished up. Dug a pretty good Conn copper and my first Irish Halfpenny!! Pretty happy with that one! Also found 1/2 of a cufflink, mourning button and this odd lead piece, looks to be some sort of weight but I'm not sure??

** The cufflink is in the main pic, the closeup in the holder is the mourning button**

Yeah, that was "in the bag" from last fall.. I had dug a nice 1773 Virginia halfpenny and a George III along with the large cent.. I had it out to get it in a flip w/ the others and included in the photos because I had not had enough coffee yet! ;-) I also dug 2 other copper blanks that I can't get any detail off of.. bummer.

Nice finds for sure.

The cufflink is a real beauty!

wow! beautiful cuff link! sweet oldies there! that oval thing with 2 holes( not sure exactly what they are? dig alot of em myself) looks like possible a masonic etching in it? :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

You knocked it out of the park with this post MB. So this is the culmination of the best of your finds from the site, if I read the post right? :occasion14:

Thanks! Well, this was the last hunt there minus the large cent.. I grabbed that to put in a flip when I was organizing the other coins I had found. The large cent was one from this site I dug last year before it got too cold, the rest of the relics are fresh from the ground all dug in about 2 hours ;-) Hopefully there will be more but there isn't much land left to hunt!!

No, the close up is another cufflink.

Really? You absolutely have more knowledge on these then me, but I posted one a couple years back and it was ID'ed as a mourning button? The specific design. However, cufflink works for me.. I like the idea of a cufflink over a "death button" ;-) Thanks for the correction..

Although some were used to represent the mourning process, it was a common design used in the 18th C. Taken from the Roman & Greek Urns seen on the 'Gentleman's' Grand Tours. No reason why it couldn't be a mourning cufflink but it wasn't its only use of this design 'classic'.

Nice array of finds.

Ahh, makes sense. The urn was what pointed this specifically to a mourning item but it seems like a common mistake of applying modern connotations to a different period and making assumptions. It does seem like a rather odd design theme today but hey.... skinny ties in the 80s are rather odd too! ;-) Thanks for the history.. always helpful..
