Out at a colonial era cellar hole and figured my day was set when I dug two King George II halfpennies around the site. Then about 10 feet from the root cellar I was lucky enough to pull out this monogrammed gold ring with what looks like "JL" or "TL" on it. At first I thought it was a child's ring because it was so thin, but that's probably not the case since it's gold (The ring tested as 14k). Also pulled out a saddle strap guide, a thimble, a bunch of buttons, and some other broken pewter pieces. A great day of cellar hole hunting!

Nice ring. If no 19th century finds like backmarked flat buttons then Id say you could solidly put this in the colonial period or at least just after

SUPER nice!!!!

I checked that as well before posting. No backmarks on the buttons and I didn't find anything that was clearly datable to the 1800s on this site.

Dusty, great save on all of those finds! The ring is truly awesome, not only for being a gold ring, but also for the fact that it is of Colonial era and is of a personal nature with the monogram. Congrats-very nice, Ddf.

That ring is fantastic! I love seeing monogrammed anything posts like this. You are very blessed to have it, congratulations on a stellar hunt for sure!

Congrats on the gold ring it's a real old beauty.

Nice chunk of gold Dust Eater. Congrats.

Old gold is the bomb
Congrats

Awesome find for sure. Old, Gold, and personalized.....is that not banner ?
And here I am stuck inside, while the spring season slips away, is raining.

PS it seems much more impressive than the posey ring, that is of course opinion.

Posey rings are undoubtedly colonial and probably earlier than this ring. They also have a personalized inscription on the inside of the band while this one is just initials. Ive got similar signet rings from the late 19th century though this one is probably earlier. Also I would think the earlier rings would have all been of high karat gold and this one does not appear to be. Very nice find though

Great hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

Gold from any period is hard enough to find (at least for me), but you just don't see 18th century gold being dug except on rare occasions. I saw this ring on Facebook, but I'm not sure if the question was asked. Is it complete and do you have any plans to have it straightened? Congrats on a spectacular find
