I found this small brass or bronze intaglio insert at a colonial site several years ago. The site was a great one, with approximately 30 coppers and several Spanish Silvers. The house near the site dates to 1810, but there was another, older home that was destroyed around that time at the site. All of the coins ranged from the 1680's to 1810, so I assume most of the other finds also date from that time period. I am trying to find more info on this wax seal, which has a convex back. I got some great detail when I created the negative image, depicting a man with a beard and a hat or cap. I have never seen another intaglio like this and I am wondering about its age, history and who the figure may be. Any input is appreciated!
