I found this in a known colonial NE settlement area yesterday evening. Lead composition but not sure of what it is. Reminds me of a saw tres40.jpg tooth button pattern but why lead?

Here's a page from C. Keith' Wilbur's Soldiers of the American Revolution showing how it would be used. If you click on the image it will expand it so you can read it easier.

They're sometimes referred to as whiligigs or whizzers as well. See them made out of coins sometimes. Cool find.

I've found several whizzers in early colonial home sites here in Virginia. Here's the last one I found. Sad it was bent up.

Dug some nice colonial relics at this site and here's a few of em'.

Very nice find! I'd be so excited to find one of those. I agree it's most likely a toy... it's interesting that it has 4 holes... maybe the maker was experimenting... if two holes are good maybe four are better or maybe the other two holes were spaced out to change how it operated a little? It was probably a musketball at some point. Who knows. Great find though and thanks for sharing!
