I jumped to my own conclusions then checked the comments. I landed on a small lid clasp like a jewelry box or perhaps even a book. Dunno
 

Tea boxes and early sugar boxes had locks on them.
 

Unlikely to be a women. It looks like a shell motif in-between 2 fitting holes. The iron was part of 1 fixing, the closest guess would be a very early sword belt fitment. (but not 100%)
