Had a hunt in the low country of SC at a plantation today. Found several other items including pewter buttons from the 1700s up to a civil war William Cleaner bullet. The photo will show the find of the day in my opinion but I don't know much about rosettes. It appears to be of very high quality and made of thin brass. It may have been stamped as the imprint of the lady and birds have a raised profile on the front and indentations on the back. There are possible marks on the back where the clip would have attached but not 100% sure. I couldn't get over the beauty of this thing and it is the most ornate piece of brass I have found to date. Seems to me like it would be identifiable due to the quality but not sure. Thanks for any input you all may have and I appreciate any comments.

Thanks for your help with the art nouveau because that's how I found it. Looks like it is a large hat button believe it or not!

Thanks for all the responses and I have researched the topic to find a match. I searched art nouveau locket and searched through several images to find an exact match. It's not worth much but it looks pretty cool! It's actually from the 1950s according to the page listed below.

Well done, it fooled me into an earlier date!

Funny how the clue was there all a long, a lady wearing a hat!
