I'm very new to the hobby, just getting a metal detector this christmas :P
I looked at some historical maps from early 40s, and there use to be a Farm where our house is! "also words from some of the neighbors who have been in the neighborhood for a long time"

Could i get some identification on this? to me it looks like an, Old tractor drive shaft.

Haha! It was interesting to dig indeed, especially when you think it's a small piece of iron, at least until you actually start digging 7 more blocks :P

And i live in Michigan! it's cold here :P

It is colder here! I am almost 6 thousand feet above sea level in the mountains and it was so cold today I actually saw a lawyer with his hands in his own pockets. I will be back in Michigan in April to plunder more lakes. I don't land detect much anymore.

I've never seen a PTO shaft quite like that. My guess would be that it's part of an old small-diameter deep well. We have a 2" well on our place - far too small for a submersible well pump. One day when our well gets capped and sealed, the top of the well pipe will get cut away. I'm guessing that's what this is.

Welcome to the hobby! It's as addictive as heroin, but not half as dangerous. Dig EVERYTHING as you learn the ins and outs of your machine. In time you'll learn how to discriminate by the sound and find the good stuff!

Thanks for all the welcomes guys!
I got a cheap Harbor freight 9 function detector, and it works surprisingly well! "Although I'm saving up for a bounty hunter

It's kind of hard to see the splines as it is a little bit on the rusty side... But it may be female.

Do you guys need closer pictures or pictures of the inside?

Yes, please - if you can.

I'm sticking with the top end of an old water well.

Welcome to the tnet.
Not sure of what you have found. Take some close ups of each end. Mabe That will help with its identification.
