I look for old inns and taverns that have a historical plaque in front of it. Then I canvass the surrounding area.
If George Washington slept there, then I can only assume his troops slept nearby.

george seems to have slept everywhere and not alone either good luck

Hiya. Not sure if this will help, but I just stumbled upon it Thursday. I am from New Bern, NC. Anyway I needed some old photo of town. Long story short I was put in touch with The Kellenberger Room, it's in the public library. I guess they have info going WAY back. Might try your library or even call this one and ask about it. Or you could also call your local historical society. This Kellenberger place is pretty crazy in the amount of info/pics, etc. etc. they have.

Good Luck!!

Rommel,

PM me about colonial info for your area.

Follow water courses and find the old springs.
Look for roads that have words like grove, ferry, crossing, etc in them.
Find the oldest part of town and then learn where the ORIGINAL roads crossed and came in from.
