Colonial site finds.

Found Sunday with Bergie at a colonial house that was built around 1755. The Barber quarters were my first. I also found :1912 , four 1916, 1920, 1921, 1939, 1940,1945, 1951 wheat pennys. Also found lots of clad and two indian head pennys 1892 & 1900. I love the bell its the first complete one that I have ever found. Also found a navy a button, a kids lead soldier and a couple of rings & a token.

Holy crap! It's been hunted before? I love it when they tell me that. There's always more to find and you proved it. That buckle is awesome as are the rings. It looks like that place is loaded. I'd be in there every weekend

That sleigh bell looks like a number 3 from the later part of the 19th century. Is it a silver one? My bronze ones are always green when I dig them.

I really need to start asking permission from homeowners. I am getting frustrated on public lands.

Neil...private yards and private property fields etc., in and around older homes and farms are definitely the place to go, that is pretty much all I hunt. I have the advantage of living on an island with about 300 year round residents so pretty much know everyone so don;t have to call or bang on the door of a stranger to ask permission. Public sites still can yield some nice finds but pretty much anyone can detect those and a homeowner can be choosy on who he allows to hunt his property. So if you haven;t hit the older homes in your area...start asking permission. Some may say no, but most, if you are nice and courteous etc., will allow you to hunt their property. Also a good majority may have some long lost ring or other item they would love for you to find for them thus gladly giving you permission to hunt. Yep, I'm finding more and more that asking permission and hunting on old, private land is the way to go. The owners always seem to appreciate a small token from their property (mercuries and Indian head pennies do nicely). I'll be handing over a 42 Walking Liberty Half (I still have three) next time I see one of my patrons. Another lady was pleased with a 35 wheat penny. And, if you do find that long lost piece of sentimental value, they're really grateful. It only helps get more places to hunt.
