Zoyboy and I got out to another colonial site today and it paid dividends. I found a nice colonial button. It's an inch and three eighths across. still has the shank on it. It has to be from the 1700's. If anyone out there knows anything about it I would like to hear about it. Zoyboy found something anyone out there would appreciate but I won't steal his thunder...Chris

Over here there called 'Dandy Buttons'. Search on that & your see a few.

Late 1700s.

So cool, I would have had no idea what that was if I dug it up. I am learning so much here!

Great job Chris. I've found some old buttons before, but not that old!
Congrats,
MM

A great zoyton for a great zoyncle...hehehe

Kirkie, he has been finding silver; do you recollect the 1806 Kreuzer? hehehe :-* :-* :-*

Zeus, we must seek permission from Sonny Bono this coming weekend...hehehe

congrats on that site. If you haven't already seen this, this website might help you ID some buttons. I got this info from mountainman 2 so I thank him for it. Just put in a search engine (Google) "Daacs cataloging manual" and it will bring you to that site. They have documents about buttons and buckles and untensils and other stuff.

Hope it helps and congrats again on your finds.

They are called just plain ole "flat buttons" here in Virginia. I find them alot. We have alot of colonial and Civil War sites here where they are found.

Plain ole flat buttons is not very descriptive. If you said that over here it could mean - 1 piece military, pewter (various), tombac (Various), Livery etc........

Dandy buttons are far bigger than your average flat button. They were worn by the 'Dandy' who was more interested in fashion over function. These button were not even true buttons, ie they never went throu a hole. They just looked good.

great colonial button, good shape. A colonial site would be nice to MD.
