I got out with Zoyboy to a previously done site . This colonial site provided many Coppas in the past. We had no misconceptions going into today of finding many more. We were just out to detect. Since KirkPa was working we didn't want to hit a virgin site without him.We still got out in the fresh air and swung our machines like a couple of eager Gibbons. All and all we didn't find a whole lot of items but I did get a nice Dollar signal which turned out to be this Copper Something. It seems small to be a Hatchet head plus its made of Copper. The bottom part near my pinkie was sharpened. Anybody have an idea what it might be?
Thanks
Chris

Very interesting find. I hope it turns out to be an ancient relic. Strange that a site that you guys have detected so many times would still have an object in the ground giving off a dollar signal. It always pays to detect sites several times. You never know what was missed all of those times before. Thats a good hunt.....for a couple of gibbons :munky2: :munky2: :laughing7:

Zeus, after doing some research, I did read so information about copper flints being used in the past. I wonder if this is a Colonial flint? :icon_scratch:

Let me do some more research. OOOOF

Lev

Is the width wedge shaped like a hatchet head? Or is it completely flat? Is it solid or hollow?

Jib, it is a solid artifact. :icon_sunny:

Looks like part of a copper age flat axe, several hundreds years old.

I'd be willing to bet this artifact extensively predates the colonial history of this site. I'm pretty sure it is a hatchet/tommohawk. Definitely copper.
Chris

CSZ,

I go out and find a 1,400 year old artifact and you top me probably by a thousand more years. :D

I wonder how old your tool is. It does look super ancient.

Kirk

CSZ, I think we need to e-mail some axe experts. :icon_scratch: We must find out what time period we are working with here. :icon_jokercolor:

This site has been very kind to us during our sweeping sessions. It was found through extensive RESEARCH! Overall, it produced these totals:
-1783 Nova Constellatio copper
-1770s King George III copper
-1787 Connecticut copper
-1800 Draped Bust cent
-Dateless Draped Bust cent
-1828 Coronet cent
-1842 Braided Hair cent
-1860 Injun head
-7 other Injun heads
-20 Colonial buttons
-2 Dandy buttons
-Potential Copper Trade Axe Item?????

Note: All artifacts were found on private property with total consent from the landowner.

Old copper culture artifact?

I,m starting to hear from some of you people who know more about this artifact than me. It is starting to get me more exited. This thing could very well be a hatchet/axe from the old copper culture of american indians of Michigan. Many thousands of years old. I need to get this to someone who can verify this as fact to me.
Chris

If it is in fact a copper culture artifact, it could be your best find of the Year.

Regards,

Buckleboy

HEY CHRIS, GREAT LOOKING RELIC. WOW DUDE, THAT WOULD BE SWEET IF IT WAS SOMETHING FROM THE AMERICAN INJUNS. DOES IT LOOK LIKE IT COULD HAVE BEEN SHARPENED AT ONE TIME............PACO

Hey Rob
It is sharpened. This thing could be thousands of years old. When you think about American indians you usually don't think about metal. This is pretty neat.
Thanks, Chris

very neat find

CSZ,

AWESOME! If this thing is thousands of years old, I declare it the find of the year so far! Seriously, all we think about are the coins, but look at this relic. This thing has more history than a usual coppa coin! We must hunt for super ancient coins this year and super ancient relics! :icon_sunny: :D

Must sweep!

Kirk

P.S. If it is thousands of years old, I declare...BANNER!
