Hi Y'all doin? <grin> Got to get out today and detect a little while, so I *DID*. I might not have found as much today as I've been finding recently at the Soccer Complex (Park) but I didn't get skunked either. FAR FROM IT! Of course there was lots of can slaw and pull tabs.. really don't have to say that I suppose, but they were there. There was the usual assortment of odd bits of metal and curious bits and pieces of "stuff" found on the surface as well. An arm from a plastic robot? I found hair clips, safety pins and this buried "Mud Buggy".

I'll have to clean it up before it becomes part of "Fro's Used Cars" inventory though.. probably won't draw a lot of interest though, the only wheels are the ones you see in the picture.. probably why it was buried.<laughing>

I found one little big eyed puppy dog too. Well.. a Pendant with one on it anyway. I'm sure you all will recognize "Odie" from the Garfield comic strip fame. I also found another Soccer association pin.. some association or another anyway <shrug> and the "pin" part was actually missing, probably why *IT* was buried in the dirt too.
Also buried in the dirt was a very LOUD target that had my heart pumping.. till I pulled it from the dirt. The target was BIG and it was HEAVY.. but it was just the terminal off of a truck or tractor battery.. a big chunk of lead.
Not long after digging up the lead, I got another good signal. This one, I thought, was going to be a quarter! I pinpointed it. probed for it and struck it fairly close to the surface.. yep.. quarter.. NOT! Sure, it's the same size as a quarter, but it is not a domestic coin. $200 Peso! From Columbia! COOL!

Oh yeah, it's cool, that $200 Peso coin.. but what is it worth? Not VERY FREAKIN' MUCH! <rolling eyes> According to the website I pulled up (of several) the exchange rate for the Colombian Peso is very VERY weak! This $200 Peso coin would convert to about $0.0927... LESS than a Dime! <shrug> Oh well.. another "Furrin Coin" for my collection. <grin> It was exciting to find.
Exciting yes, but not the last excitement for the day. I got another big target signal a while later, but it was kind of erratic. My detector's target id was jumping all over the place. So. I dug! Well I probed anyway. It didn't feel like a buried pop can or can slaw.. it was solid. I peeled back some grass and cut through the grass roots till I saw SILVER!!!! Or at least I thought it was silver.. I had my camera so I took a picture.. several pictures.. I was AMPED!

It's a wonder that the picture is in focus.. I was shaking a bit. <grin> I went ahead and excavated some more and turned the ring.. yes it is a ring.. over... that when I met the Dragon!

9-25-08 002dragondirt.webp

I plucked it from the dirt and grass and got a closer look..

9-25-08 004dragonroots.webp

Sweeeet.. but is it.. well.. ? ? ? ? I turned it over and there was the stamp.. YES!

9-25-08 005proof.webp

And the chicken dance commenced... Flapping of wings, jumping and hopping around yipping and yapping with delight! BOY AM I GLAD THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AROUND! <laughing>

Well that was the topper for the day. I found a few other coins and stuff after the DRAGON.. but it all paled in comparison, and my time allotted to detecting was over anyway.. so I headed home, still jazzed!
Here's EVERYTHING I found today.. like I said, it's not as much as the past few trips out, but I enjoyed it all the same.

That's $2.18 in clad, mostly pennies.. $200 PESOS! <laughing> a pile of junk.. a toy car, and one VERY big Silver Ring. <grinning from ear to ear> Here's some more pics after I cleaned it up a bit.

.... note the grass roots still in the recesses around the dragon.. I'm using a toothpick to get those out, and soaking it in some warm soapy water.

That Dragon is impressive! And... it FITS! <grin> I guess I should have weighed it to see how "heavy" it really is. Oh well.. maybe later. For now I'm just psyched! But.. I still have room here for pictures! How did that happen? <grin> Oh well.. here's a little doodle courtesy of yours truly and Paint for Windows..

Got to stop and smell the roses along the way..or whatever flowers there happen to be.. oh.. and watch out for those pesky BEEs.. <grin>

Happy Hunting Everyone!

Very Nice ring, that must have blasted your eardrums! Funny, I found a $200 peso coin from Colombia this summer also, by an old ball field in Eastern Montana, sure makes one scratch our head sometimes wondering how stuff ends up where it does!

Nice digs, keep it up!

Frodov , Yeah Baby !!!!!!,now that's what I'm talkin about . I told you in my last note to you , that I

noticed your silver finds are really happening . That ring is a "hunka hunka burnin love". Congrats!

For a location in the middle of the country (well... sort of..) I have found all kinds of foreign coins. Everything from Canadian (not so unusual maybe) to Ukranian, Colombian, Mexican, British, even a coin from the Middle East.. yeah, it makes me scratch my head too. Just HOW do these far traveled coins end up in my neighborhood? Are there that many world travelers living in my home town? Oh well, a puzzle it will remain I'm sure.. but I'm also sure that I get a kick out of finding them! <grin>
As for the dragon ring blasting out my eardrums.. not so much. Oh I got a nice loud target indication, but my poor little Prizm couldn't make up it's electronic brain just as to what exactly it thought it might be.. 50 cent piece, quarter, copper, zinc... back and forth. The depth indicator stayed fairly solid though, at just about 2 inches. Usually, when I get a flakey target read like that the depth is all over the place too.. usually indicating that it's a buried can (pop or beer). Sometimes a piece of sheet metal will have the same effect..but this time it was this big honkin' ring! <grin> I LOVE THIS HOBBY!

Happy Hunting!

Cool stuff. How do you cut the dirt with that little scrawny knife? It looks like a ginsu knife. The blade seems flimsy.
I'm not criticising, just asking.

We ever get together sometime Wild I'll show it to you.. looks are decieving.. it's actually very very sturdy. I made it from an old discarded "shoe knife" from work (Shoe not being footwear, but rather a part on a machine). It's made from stainless steel and is very resiliant. No.. it's not very sharp, the tip is blunted so as not to damage any coins found.. much.. but I did cut serations into the flat of the blade to make it easier to cut through sod and grass roots. I probably use this knife to pop out more finds than I use my digging tool for. Of course, those would be finds MUCH closer to the surface <grin>. Deeper targets require deeper holes.. and a bigger digger. <laughing>
